My primary aim is to pursue surgical
oncology as a career in an institution, preferably with a
specialised department for it. I would like to devote part of
my time to academics and research interests. Hopefully, this
would entail a) clinical trials and b) the integration of
basic research with clinical work having implications on
patient management. To this end I shall be able to collaborate
and plan studies with my colleagues and friends in the UK who
have expressed their enthusiasm for joint projects. I would be
keen to acquire, learn and teach newer surgical techniques and
concepts in improving patient management from an oncologic and
basic surgical point of view.
Another long-term project that I feel
strongly about is the spread of cancer awareness among our
population and non-specialist doctors. This should result in
an earlier detection of cancer and hence improve cure rates. I
think this may be possible with cancer screening/detection
camps and regularly organised lectures for clinicians by
cancer specialist.
